Correspondent in Washington DC
You will find me in the capital of a declining empire, ensconced in a bar with an internet connection, trying to transform a fresh perspective of the United States into words. With a diverse background in prestigious newsrooms in Barcelona, at the age of 25, I packed up to pursue a childhood dream. Since August 2022, I have been following the fast-paced American news, while I find time to delve into the topics in which I specialize: climate emergency, migrations, disruptive technologies and geopolitics.
The adventure of being a freelancer in Washington has given me the opportunity to collaborate regularly with prestigious media outlets, such as Diari Ara, elDiario.es, La Sexta and NTN24. After a year and a half of intense learning, I am currently covering the 2024 election year as a correspondent for La Vanguardia and Rac 1 in Washington.

Javier de la Sotilla Puig
I have learned my trade in the International sections of La Vanguardia and Diari Ara, in the audiovisual department of Agencia EFE and in the communication area of Amnesty International Catalunya. I have grown as a writer by working for a year in a digital media specialized in logistics and transport called El Mercantil. Before that, I took a master's degree in International Journalism at Universitat Ramon Llull (2021) and graduated in Journalism and Political Science at Universitat Pompeu Fabra (2020). In addition, I achieved the Idea Radio Award (2019) from Cadena SER with the program La Bretxa. Subsequently, I was chosen among the winners of the Blanquerna Mention Scholarship, which has allowed me to study a Master's Degree in International Journalism.
My Bachelor's and Master's Degree Final Projects are a sample of my passions. Expelled by the climate (International Journalism) tries to explain the complexity of environmental migrations; Microtargeting in electoral processes (Political Science) is an analysis, from political theory, of segmented propaganda in social media and its implications in liberal democracies. CoolPol (Journalism) is the prototype of an audiovisual media of political analysis aimed at a young audience. In addition, during my degree, I created the blog ComViureBCN, where I explained the impact and integration of mass tourism in Barcelona.
This website is a comprehensive compilation of my published works in various formats, encompassing digital, press, photography, video and radio, showcasing the breadth and depth of my storytelling prowess.
